discover. At the University of Minnesota, this curiosity is part of our
collective DNA. We provide a thriving community for those with an
overwhelming drive to teach and to learn, to research and to serve. We also
celebrate those whose searches have led to discoveries that have changed
the world. At the U of M, we continually inspire the next great generation
of innovators and empower each other during our search for knowledge.

Key Messages
- The University of Minnesota is launching its first-ever
comprehensive communications initiative to convey the benefits
of a public research university to the state.
- The Driven to Discover communications initiative is part of the
"Transforming the U" strategic positioning effort and was created
to help the U reach its goal of becoming one of the top three public
research universities in the world.
- Recent surveys show that Minnesotans understand and value the
U's education mission, but don't fully understand and appreciate its
unique role as the state's only public research university. This role is
vital to the state's health, well-being and economy, and we have an
obligation to help people better understand it.
- Driven to Discover describes the U's mission and communicates
our search for knowledge and the drive to share that learning and
discovery with our students and the larger community.
- The funds spent on this communications initiative are an investment
in building greater public and philanthropic support for the U and its
mission.
